What's new in Workplace?
July 2020

All the latest Workplace product announcements and feature releases.

Summer 2020 is sure to be different from other years before it. We might not be able to enjoy crowded beaches and summer holidays, but we hope we can make your work days a bit brighter with some of the latest feature enhancements from the Workplace team. Action items posts to help you track jobs to be done, videos to make your Knowledge Library more engaging and automated chat responses when you turn on Do Not Disturb are just a few of the feature improvements you can read about below.

Remember to look at our Remote Working Resource Hub for tools, tips and advice on staying connected with your company while working from home.

Richer posting experiences

Richer posting experiences

To help teams stay on track and celebrate successes, we have built two new post types. Action items posts are designed to promote visibility and accountability within teams – needs that we know are all the more critical when colleagues are apart. Achievement posts are designed to help teams create community, boost morale and promote the team's hard work.

Action items post

Add action items to your post to effectively communicate follow-ups from meetings or jobs to be done to members of your team. A poster can tag colleagues on specific items and keep track of when an action item has been completed. Follow these steps to get started with action items.

Achievement post

Create a special achievement post with an illustrated animation or your own custom image or video. Achievement posts can be used to highlight a team's hard work, and everyone who contributed to the effort. Learn how to use achievement posts in the Workplace Help Centre.

New Workplace experiences on Portal

New Workplace experiences on Portal

Workplace Live on Portal

The Workplace Live app on Portal is a new way to broadcast and consume live videos. In addition to broadcasting live from your Portal, you can now use the Workplace Live app to watch in-session and previously recorded live videos. Turn the Workplace Live app on Portal into your organisation's live video channel, discovering both in-session and previous live videos in one place and catch up with important company information.

Background Blur and Desk View

When using Workplace on Portal, use Background Blur and Desk View to help you make the right impression with your colleagues, clients, stakeholders and others. During Workplace calls on Portal, Background Blur intelligently blurs your environment, while keeping the view of yourself clear and focused. Desk View enables Smart Camera to optimise the camera view for sitting or standing close to a workstation, while enabling Smart Sound to minimise noises such as keyboard typing.

Limit distractions with Do Not Disturb

Limit distractions with Do Not Disturb

Set aside time to focus or disconnect from work with Do Not Disturb. Now when you set Do Not Disturb, we make it easier to step away by pausing notifications, sounds and message and post pop-ups. If someone sends you a message on chat during this time, they will now receive an automatic message letting them know that your notifications are off and when you will return. You can turn on or schedule Do Not Disturb by clicking on your profile picture or status in the bottom-left corner. Learn how to use Do Not Disturb in our Help Centre.

Save searches in security log

Saved searches in security log

Managing the security events of a Workplace community can be a demanding job. To help admins better navigate the security log, we are launching saved searches so admins can save their most frequently used search queries and filter combinations, making it easier to understand and manage the security events in your Workplace.

Simplify access to Workplace with areas

Simplify access to Workplace with areas

Make accessing Workplace easier for people who work away from a desk with areas. Areas allows frontline managers to distribute profile activation information and troubleshooting assistance, such as access codes and password resets, quickly and without support from a system administrator. Read more about how system admins can enable areas and how area coordinators can connect frontline teams to Workplace in the Customer Resource Centre.

Add videos to your Knowledge Library

Add videos to your Knowledge Library

Knowledge Library provides a central place to create and share static content on Workplace. To keep this official content interesting and engaging, you can now add videos to categories on Knowledge Library. You can choose to upload a video from your device or embed a video by adding a link to Workplace, YouTube, Vimeo and more. To learn more about Knowledge Library, take a look at our animated video and Customer Resource Centre guide.

Improving profile controls

Improving profile controls

In order to ensure that people and organisations feel safe using Workplace, we are continuing to invest in easy-to-use and transparent tools to manage people's profiles on Workplace. We are adding the ability for people to report a profile if they find it suspicious. We are also adding the option to switch to another Workplace for people who have more than one account.

Report a profile

We are introducing a new reporting option that allows people to report Workplace profiles they find suspicious. Upon receiving a profile report, a system admin will have the option to either deactivate or allow the user profile. We are also introducing a new report type called "Pretending to be someone else", which will be added to the existing content reporting flow, and can be used to report posts, comments, chats or profiles.

Switch to another Workplace

You can now easily switch from one Workplace profile to another if you are logged in to multiple accounts on the same browser. Just click on your profile picture, select "Switch Workplace" and pick the account you're looking for.
