You don't need a personal Facebook account to sign up for Workplace and there are separate websites and apps for both.

No, your employer will not be able to access your personal Facebook account.

If you're using Workplace Advanced or Enterprise, your company owns the information and data your employees create in your Workplace. Facebook acts as the data processor.

If an organization is using Workplace Advanced or Enterprise, after an employee leaves, the admin will still have access to their Workplace profile.

You can deactivate your account at any time. However, if you're using Workplace Advanced or Enterprise, your organization will have continued access to your Workplace profile.

Workplace Product Plans and Pricing

The plans and pricing help organizations choose the product capabilities that they need, better predict costs and better connect their frontline employees with the rest of the business.

Workplace Advanced is built for connecting an entire organization on Workplace. It contains familiar Workplace features such as News Feed, Live video and Groups, plus admin controls. Workplace Advanced costs US$ 4.00 per person, per month. With Workplace Advanced, frontline employees can be connected to Workplace Frontline on mobile for US$ 1.50 per person, per month.

Workplace Enterprise is for organizations that operate with greater levels of complexity, due to their size or industry, and need a higher level of support. It includes all of the features in the Advanced plan, plus a 4-hour initial support response time SLA, priority support resolution and early access to new features. Workplace Enterprise costs US$ 8.00 per person, per month.

The Frontline feature makes it easier to manage how your frontline staff access Workplace. It lets admins assign people in your organization as frontline workers. Admins can then add a custom message and terms to appear whenever these frontline workers use Workplace, such as "You won't be paid overtime for using Workplace outside office hours". Frontline workers are charged at a discounted rate of US$ 1.50 per person, per month. Admins can also disable group creation for frontline workers.

The Frontline feature is available in the Workplace Advanced and Enterprise plans. In Advanced, frontline workers can only access Workplace on mobile. In Enterprise, you can decide whether to allow access on both mobile and web, or limit it to mobile only.

Frontline workers are people whose primary role is working directly with customers or the general public, providing services, support and selling products, or employees directly involved in the manufacturing and distribution of products.

To qualify as a frontline worker on Workplace, an employee must fall into one or more of these buckets:

  • Employee is away from a desk 50% of the time or more
  • Employee is paid hourly
  • Employee does not have a work email address

AND employee matches one of these role descriptions:

  • Customer-facing worker (sales floor, receptionist, associate, hospitality worker, air steward, etc.) at any level, including management
  • Backstage worker (warehouse, courier, etc.) at any level, including management
  • Utilities or public service worker (police officer, waste management, electrical line repair, water supply) at any level, including management
  • Medical care staff (nursing, doctor, facilities) at any level, including management

No. The Frontline feature can only be used as an add-on to Workplace Advanced or Workplace Enterprise.

Frontline workers are charged at US$1.50 per person per month rather than US$ 4.00 on Workplace Advanced or US$ 8.00 on Workplace Enterprise, please get in touch with sales.

You can add frontline workers via the Frontline menu in the Admin Panel.

Workplace Advanced and Enterprise can be used on the web, on iOS and Android mobile apps and via a mobile web browser.

In Workplace Advanced, the Frontline feature is only available on iOS and Android mobile apps and via a mobile web browser only.

In Workplace Enterprise the Frontline feature is available on the web, iOS and Android mobile apps and via a mobile web browser.

On Workplace Advanced and Enterprise, you pay for the number of people who have been invited to activate their Workplace profile. You can create an unlimited number of profiles in your Workplace. But only when a person is invited to activate their profile do they become billable.

Workplace admins can control how many people are invited to activate their Workplace profile and can therefore control and predict how much Workplace will cost each month.

You can deactivate their profiles in the Admin Panel. Please follow the instructions in our Help Centre article.

Workplace has a subscription-based model and you can cancel your account at any time by contacting Workplace support. You'll need to notify us of the cancellation 30 days in advance.

No data will be deleted from existing Workplace profiles. Advanced and Enterprise customers will have access to APIs to extract data from Workplace.

There are no ads on Workplace.

Workplace acts as your organization’s data processor. Your organization remains in control of your data. The Workplace Online Terms contain the relevant data processing terms to help customers comply with the GDPR, in particular the terms in the Data Processing Addendum.

Workplace and Facebook accounts are separate, with separate profiles and login credentials for each account. Content is never shared between your Workplace and personal Facebook account.

In Workplace, your organization owns and administers the account data - you can modify, delete, or export it at any time. Our industry standard APIs allow for real-time activity monitoring and content exports. If you would like to use third party tools for eDiscovery and compliance, we provide integrations with several industry-leading providers.

No, Workplace is a different product from Facebook. You don't need a personal Facebook account to sign up for Workplace and there are separate websites and apps for both.

Security

Security

Workplace is hosted on Facebook's infrastructure, protected by a combination of advanced security systems, world renowned security teams, firm security policies and processes focused on customer privacy and safety. Physical access to our data centers is restricted to authorized individuals, and we own or directly lease all of our facilities so we have end-to-end control over the grounds, buildings, servers, operations and maintenance for each center.

Admins can leverage our Security Center to monitor unusual security events and view a company security health score. They can also use our APIs or partner with a service provider for policy enforcement and to receive security alerts.

ISO 27001

This certification demonstrates security best practice and provides an independent validation of the design and operational effectiveness of our security management program and information security management system.

ISO 27018

This certification covers the control objectives, controls and guidelines for implementing measures to protect personally identifiable information (PII) in accordance with the privacy principles in ISO/IEC 29100 for the Workplace from Facebook service and all related supporting technology.

SOC Certifications

  • SOC 2 - is an extensive independent audit of how we host and operate Workplace by Facebook, which is performed annually by an independent third party auditor and covers the 12 month period from the previous calendar year. The assessment covers everything from how we secure and protect the application and our data centers, to how we verify the identity and background of our employees. This is available upon request, subject to an NDA.
  • SOC 3 - this report provides a summary of the SOC 2 report.
