Engaging employees means more than just putting out a steady stream of internal communications. It's important to measure engagement, track employee sentiment and optimise messaging based on your findings. Campaigns makes it easy by allowing you to quickly track the performance of multiple posts. With campaigns, you can spend less time gathering data on individual posts and more time gaining insights to improve how you communicate with your people.

How to do it in Workplace

1. Create a new campaign1. Create a new campaign

System admins, content moderators, account managers, analysts and custom admin roles with the "See post insights and manage campaigns" permissions can create, edit and view campaigns. Go to Campaigns from the Admin Panel and click on + Create campaign. Give your campaign a name and click Create.

2. Add posts to your campaign2. Add posts to your campaign

You can add a total of 50 posts to each campaign. There are two ways that you can add posts to a campaign. From the campaign page, click + Add post. Enter the post's URL or ID, then click Done. To find the URL of a post, go to that post and click on the at the top right-hand corner. Then, select Copy post link and paste that link in the campaign page.

You can also click on the in the top-right corner of the post that you'd like to add and then select Add post to a campaign. Search for the campaign by typing its name into the text box and then choosing from the search results.

Once all posts have been added to your campaign, you'll be able to view data using two reporting options: people and engagement.

  • People look at the number of individuals who have seen, commented or reacted on at least one of the posts within the campaign.
  • Engagement looks at the total seen by, comments and reactions for each post within the campaign.

You'll also be able to see the average percentage of the campaign that was read as well as the overall campaign sentiment. Campaign sentiment is based on the overall proportion of negative, neutral and positive comments.

Scroll down to see how each of your campaign posts have performed. Analyse seen by, comments, reactions and average percentage of posts read. You can also explore Insights for each individual post by clicking on the icon on the right of it and selecting See post insights.

Scroll down to analyse by different segments of your organisation, such as job title, department, location and more. Again, you'll be able to select from two reporting options: people and engagement. Use this data to understand which segment of your organisation your campaign resonates with most. Then, tailor your messaging or build smaller campaigns that target specific audiences.

Track engagement and campaign sentiment over time to understand how your campaign is landing. Use this to inform the length of future campaigns, and to evaluate messaging for future posts.

Consider what needs your organisation has that can be addressed through an internal campaign. It could be executive transparency, alignment to the company mission, healthy work/life practices, better communication among colleagues etc.

Here are a few best practices to bear in mind when planning an internal communication plan:

  • Consider your audience
  • Optimise your messaging to meet your organisation's needs
  • Consider the appropriate Workplace group(s)
  • Build a succinct timeline against your communication plan
  • Have clear calls to action
