How Valet Living increased employee retention by 20% using Workplace
Valet Living is the leading provider of apartment valet services in the US. Here's how using Workplace united Valet Living's geographically dispersed workforce and dramatically increased employee engagement and retention.

Valet Living is an amenity services company that supports the multi-family housing industry in over 40 states across the US. From in-home services such as cleaning, package delivery, laundry and pet care, to maintenance and grounds keeping work around apartment communities nationwide, Valet Living aims to raise the bar on residential concierge services.
Untangle work with Workplace
From informing everyone about the return to the office to adopting a hybrid way of working, Workplace makes work more simple.

90% of Valet Living's workforce is comprised of part-time staff with multiple jobs and varying shifts throughout the day. Unlike the full-time staff who work at Valet Living's Florida HQ, part-time staff work on client sites and used to feel disconnected from the rest of the business. They had limited interaction with the home office and with each other. This created fundamental challenges in communicating and collaborating across the organisation.
In 2016, Valet Living was looking for an intuitive, mobile-first collaboration solution to suit both part-time and head office staff. In December 2016, Valet Living adopted Workplace. "When searching for our corporate communications platform, we were looking for more than just a tool to push out to our associates," said Chief Marketing Officer, Patti Girardi.
"Workplace has helped us build something that went beyond our expectations and continues to exceed them, allowing us to connect our associates on a level we never imagined. The Workplace team has also provided us with guidance on how to use the platform to best fit our unique needs. The fact that Workplace is a Facebook product – making it user-friendly, intuitive and evergreen – was the icing on the cake!"

Recording a 20% increase in employee retention
As soon as Workplace was introduced, new dialogues sprung up in every part of the business. The sales team uses Workplace to share tips and foster friendly competition. District Managers provide inspiration, team goals and virtual stand-ups via team groups to rally people together for the day ahead.

Recently, Workplace provided the perfect platform to introduce Valet Living's new app-enabled amenity services offering – Valet Living Home – internally, and keep everyone in the organisation in the loop.
Henry Toledo, Chief People Officer at Valet Living, noticed a direct correlation between the implementation of Workplace and a steady rise in Valet Living's associate retention rate. By tracking a year-on-year comparison, Valet Living was able to identify a 20% increase in associate retention since Workplace was introduced. Despite how large and geographically dispersed the workforce is, associates say that they feel more engaged with the company thanks to Workplace.
"What Workplace allows us to do is to continue to help drive not only what we do, but how we do it." said Toledo. "Workplace gives us a platform to showcase how our associates are continually embracing our leadership standards and acting as great servant leaders for Valet Living. It is now easier to communicate with team members and share important company information in a fun and interactive way."

Achieving a 50% increase in filling vacancies with internal candidates
With so many new staff joining the company, there are a lot of open roles to fill. One of Valet Living's key business goals was to drive a culture of internal promotion, and have existing staff fill more internal vacancies.

To help achieve this goal, Valet Living created a company-wide "Your Career" group on Workplace for everyone to see new job opportunities. Associates now use the group to share stories of Valet Living team members who have been promoted to new roles and celebrate work anniversaries across the company. Workplace has allowed Valet Living to successfully achieve a 50% increase in filling headcount from within its own ranks.
"I personally get on Workplace every day," said Shawn Handrahan, President & CEO of Valet Living. "I love seeing our associates interacting with one an another in new and different ways. Workplace has helped us become a better organisation by giving us an innovative way to communicate with our associates across the country."

Currently hiring around 1,000 associates per month, with its sights firmly set on servicing over 1,000 new communities by the end of 2019, Valet Living is growing at an exponential rate. And Workplace is proudly supporting growth at scale, smarter teamwork and happier, more engaged employees.
